As more and more dentists are adding dental implant placement to their list of services, it is increasingly important to take the time to research and make sure you are choosing an expert that’s best suited for the job. Your Houston oral surgeons would like to share the results of a recent study that show the public and patients agree that oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the most qualified for dental implant placement.

Who’s the Best Choice for Dental Implant Placement?

The study from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons presented the same question to prospective dental implant patients and the general public. Two groups of adults participated in the study: 50 people with no plans for dental implant placement and 76 who had scheduled a consultation for dental implants at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry’s dental clinic.

The results? The majority of people in both groups agreed: oral and maxillofacial surgeons are the most qualified to perform dental implant placement.

That’s good news for everyone’s oral health, and for the continued success of dental implants. While they are becoming more common and attainable, dental implants still require a complex oral surgery. While many general dentists may be qualified to place dental implants, that does not mean they are necessarily the best equipped to do the job. Especially in the case of more complex implant placements, trusting an expert is of the utmost importance.
